I was preparing my meal plan for the upcoming week and was reminded of just how much I love my slow cooker. My crock pot is a lifesaver for me as it removes that mad dinner rush that is also coupled with the “after school, middle of homework, getting ready for after school sports, trying to get my family fed a healthy and filling meal, also getting some quality family time in” time of the day that we all struggle with.
In my opinion, there are seven real reasons to use your Crock Pot every week.
…And here they are (let me know if you agree!)
- It’s Cheap. Not to be the queen of obvious here, but there aren’t many dinners that cost $5 for a family of four and this is definitely doable when you use your crockpot. Because you can get lesser expensive cuts of meat and turn them into tender cuts by cooking gradually, you spend less at the meat counter, easing the blow on the budget.
- It’s Easy. Most of the Crock Pot recipes that I make take all of 15 minutes at most to assemble. And, because they cook themselves, there’s no time to spend over the stove around the meal hour.
- Skip the Drive Through. When I know that dinner is cooking in the Crock Pot, I have ZERO reason to swing through the drivethru for dinner, saving big bucks. On a side note, our son was student of the week last week at school so we surprised him with lunch out one day from school. Our family of four spent $26 …. {AT McDONALD’S!} Ummm, last time I checked…. that would have bought me a brand new Crock Pot or a new pair of shoes.
- It’s Comforting. Are you with me on this one? The smell of a roast cooking in the Crock Pot on a Fall day is about the best smell you can come home to… yum!
- Cooking in the Sow Cooker Puts You Ahead. If you know you’ve got a busy week, cook your meat in the Crock Pot ahead of time so you’ve got it prepared. I allow for food to stay in my fridge for four days, so as long as I know I’ll be making my meal before the end of the week cooking the meat ahead of time allows me to have the bulk of the presswork done for a dinner or two for the upcoming nights.
- We All Need a Break. We do. That’s just the way it goes. So, if I make a big ‘ol pot of soup or a roast one night, I may be able to take the next night off from cooking, or atleast not have to make a lunch the next day. Perfect if you’re looking to simplify your schedule.
- I Have to Plan Ahead. When I use my Crock Pot I am forced to think about the week ahead giving me a better feel of what the week will entail and all that we have going on. Again, if I know I’m using my Crock Pot atlas one time this week, I know that I have atlas one night “off” – preferably on one of the nights that we have 65 things going on.
And, in case you’re wondering, this is the Crock Pot I have (and I love it!)
