Each and every January my group chat is abuzz with “So how much does Nutrisystem actually cost?”
I get it. Lots of us resolve to eat healthier after indulging over the holidays.
Nutrisystem could be the answer. But how much does Nutrisystem really cost per month?
Is it worth it?
Nutrisystem costs around $10-$14 per day which could cost you $300-$400 per month depending on the plan you select. There are less expensive plans but those are when you choose a predetermined menu of meals.
If you select their customizable options where there’s more variety in food choices, expect to pay the higher end of the spectrum.

How to Get the Cheapest Nutrisystem Deal
They advertise the cost per day but don’t advertise the amount they’ll be charging your credit card which can be shocking. Here’s a few things to consider:
There’s almost always a discount available. Most commonly they have a 50% off the first month. That’s important because at full price Nutrisystem isn’t necessarily cheaper than what you’re spending on food in a month. However, that first month can be the difference.
If you don’t mind eating the exact same food every month you can choose the cheapest plan and go from there. There’s an introductory rate where you’ll get 28 meals for $99. That’s a steal. That’s around $3.50/meal!

Is Nutrisystem Worth It?
To me, Nutrisystem is worth it because it takes the decision-making out of eating healthy. It’s a matter of perspective.
Here’s a few considerations that might help you figure out if Nutrisystem is right for you.
Pros: If you struggle with portion control or meal planning Nutrisystem could be an answer. There’s something to be said about a week of craziness when we’re reaching for takeout containers “because there’s nothing in the house.” Nutrisystem saves you from yourself.
It’s a done-deal plan of meals for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even snacks. There’s no weighing, no measuring, no calorie counting, and no deciding.
The foods themselves are pretty good (not gourmet).
Cons: If you enjoy cooking, hate wasting money on things you don’t use up, or have a tight budget Nutrisystem could be an investment you’re not happy with. There are cheaper meal delivery services that aren’t diet-centric which could save you money, especially if you’re feeding a family.
If you’re a picky eater you may be limited in your selections.
It could be helpful for you in the following ways:
If you’re feeling out of control or need some structure Nutrisystem could be the nudge you’re looking for.
It’s an option when life is crazy. Even with two teens in the house there are weeks where life is chaotic. It’s a lifeline when life gets crazy.
Bottom line? If you want to invest in Nutrisystem and use it for a couple of months to get on track it may be worth it for you.
If you’re a fan of cooking and want to feed your family with meals you’re going to enjoy Nutrisystem probably isn’t the answer. If you’re on a tight budget you’re going to struggle paying $10+ a day for your meals.
Nutrisystem is easy to cancel. You can easily manage your subscription online and skip weeks or cancel all together.
There’s no need to “call to cancel” which is great.

Does Nutrisystem Work? Like any other calorie-managed programs based on portion control, this plan allows you to eat less without counting calories.
The people who are most successful are those who stick with the controlled portions.
Do you need to buy the food indefinitely? A lot of people use it as a temporary tool that helps them figure out what the correct serving size is, then they stop getting deliveries and go back to shopping for food like normal.
Using it as a short-term tool instead of a permanent subscription is the cheapest way to do it.
Are there cheaper alternatives? There are other diet and meal plans.
We’ve done a lot of work to figure out the math on them (for the last 3 years!)
Should you choose Nutrisystem? If you’re looking for an easy diet with minimal decisions it could be helpful for you.
Order the first month at half price to make sure you like the foods and can follow the program. If you do, continue.
If not, consider using your first month of Nutrisystem as inspiration for what to eat and use those portion sizes as guidelines as you eat the same foods you liked, just made from groceries. Either way, you’ll have a win.
