Easy 3-Ingredient Strawberry Dip
This strawberry dip tastes amazing and only takes 3 ingredients to create. Best of all, it's only about 5 minutes of prep! It's just like strawberry cheesecake, but in dippable form!
At many parties and potlucks, I've made this recipe, and it always goes over exceptionally well with the kids. It's so good that you'll likely catch yourself eating it with a spoon.
Hypothetically speaking, I'm not saying I've done that before.
All I'm saying is that it is quite possible.
Why This Dip Always Disappears
With only three ingredients you wouldn't think it could be so good, but this dip is a great example of how simple can be delicious.
Mix, chill, and done! The miracle though, was my kids actually eating the fruit that went with it.
The dip is so great that a kid who typically only eats dip was grabbing strawberries to put on top. I guess I'll call that a win.
Why a Dip That’s Three Ingredients Tastes Like Cheesecake
The Jell-O powder is unprepared – used dry. You aren’t making Jell-O. You are mixing the dry powder straight into the other ingredients to add flavor and a slight set to the dip.
When mixed with the Cool Whip, it gives the dip its cheesecake depth and a light, mousse-like texture.
Strawberry cheesecake yogurt serves a double purpose. It provides the strawberry taste as well as the cheesecake like tang. Any strawberry cheesecake yogurt will work. Anderson Erickson is my favorite in the Midwest but any brand is fine.
Cool Whip provides body and lightness to the dip. When added at the very end, it transforms the mixture from being a thick yogurt situation to a fluffy dip that is spoonable and has real volume. Don't skip it.
The dish improves as it cools. After one hour in your fridge, it will be even better with the texture becoming a bit firmer and the flavors coming together. Make it in advance when possible.
Three Ingredients, Each One Doing Real Work
1 oz package fat-free, sugar-free cheesecake Jell-O gelatin
Use it unprepared — you're only mixing in the dry powder, not making actual Jell-O. What makes this dip taste like cheesecake and not just sweet yogurt is the cheesecake flavor.
You will need cheesecake flavor Jell-O because vanilla Jell-O will not give you the same depth of flavor. It may take some looking to find it but it will be in the Jell-O aisle.
1 tub Cool Whip (thawed)
Make sure it is fully thawed before you use it – fold it in gently so you keep the fluffy airy texture. An 8 oz tub is the right size for this recipe.
Don't rush the thaw. If Cool Whip is only partially thawed, it will leave lumps that don't smooth out. If you're trying to keep it a little lighter, Light Cool Whip works.
1 container strawberry cheesecake yogurt
Ensure that it's strawberry cheesecake flavor specifically, not just plain strawberry and not cheesecake separate. This is the base and the flavor backbone of the dip.
The cheesecake flavoring and cheesecake Jell-O powder give this recipe a cheesecake taste and not just a yogurt dip. I wouldn’t use Greek yogurt here because it is too thick and gives the dip a bad texture.
Optional: pink or red food coloring
You can add more drops to make the dip an even brighter and more vibrant pink. This is great for a party or if you're serving it at an event with a fun theme. It's totally optional and the taste is the same either way.

How to Make 3-Ingredient Strawberry Dip
Step 1: Mix the Jell-O and Yogurt
Erica's instructions say to mix the yogurt with the dry Jell-O powder in a bowl. The mixture is light-colored, thick, and mousse-like in consistency.
The powder should dissolve quickly and no dry clumps should remain.

Step 2: Add Food Coloring (Optional)
If you're using food coloring, add a few drops of pink or red now and stir it in. Mixing it in at this stage is easier than after the Cool Whip goes in.

Step 3: Fold in the Cool Whip
Using a gentle hand, fold in the thawed Cool Whip so that it is fully incorporated. Stirring too vigorously will deflate and create a dip that is runnier.
Once you no longer see white streaks, folding will be complete. Once finished, cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes before serving.
The dip will become slightly thicker as the flavor continues to develop. It's even better if you leave it overnight.

What to Know Before You Start
- Thaw the Cool Whip completely. Folding in partially frozen Cool Whip leaves lumps. Put it in the fridge the night before, not on the counter an hour before you need it.
- Use the right Jell-O flavor. It needs to be cheesecake flavor specifically. Regular vanilla or strawberry Jell-O won’t give you the same result.
- Chill before serving. Even 30 minutes in the fridge makes a difference. The dip firms up slightly and the flavors come together much better when it’s cold.
- Make it the night before if you can. This dip genuinely gets better overnight in the fridge. It’s an ideal make-ahead recipe.
What We Put It Out With
This dip can be enjoyed with nearly every kind of fruit. Here are the classics:
- Fresh strawberries — the natural pairing and the obvious choice
- Apple slices — the sweet-tart contrast is excellent
- Pineapple chunks — tropical + cheesecake flavor is surprisingly good
- Grapes — easy to grab and dip at a party
- Banana slices — rich and creamy, great with this dip
- Graham crackers — for the full cheesecake experience, dip a graham cracker
This dip is perfect for a fruit tray! Use it at parties, baby showers, bridal showers, holiday get-togethers, or whenever you want to impress people with an easy dessert spread.
How Long It Keeps (and One Thing Not to Do)
Keep the dip in the fridge and covered for 3 days. While it might slightly deflate, it will still taste great, and remain fluffy and texurally intact!
Gently mix when you're serving if it's been in the fridge overnight. Please do not freeze it. Once mixed in with the dip, Cool Whip does not freeze and thaw well.
Can You Make This Ahead?
It gets even better the longer it sits, so I always make it a day in advance. You just make it, cover it, and put it in the fridge overnight!
Take it out just before serving. To be honest, it’s better a night in the fridge.
Three Ways to Change It Up
Different Jell-O flavors: For a lighter lemon cheesecake dip, try vanilla or lemon Jell-O powder mixed with vanilla yogurt. For a completely different flavor combination, use orange Jell-O with peach yogurt.
Another option for yogurt is cheesecake-flavored yogurt. If you can find only plain strawberry yogurt, that will still be fine — it will just be less cheesecake-y and more strawberri-y.
Adding cream cheese will make the dip richer and denser. To do this, beat 4 oz of softened cream cheese along with the yogurt and Jell-O, and then fold in the Cool Whip. This will give the dip a texture that is similar to cheesecake.
You can also make whipped cream instead of using Cool Whip. This alternative is viable, but keep in mind that it won't hold up as long. If you go this route, serve it the same day.
A Few Things Worth Having for This Recipe
This dip is simple enough that the ingredients are the important details:
Finding the best yogurt flavor is easy; it has to be strawberry cheesecake. Definitely not plain strawberry or vanilla. The cheesecake flavor is key to making this dip taste like cheesecake, and it makes it taste even better. You'll want to get the Yoplait or Anderson Erickson strawberry cheesecake variety, depending on which one your store has.
A nice serving bowl. This dip looks great when displayed at a party — especially with a border of fresh strawberries around the outside. A plain white ceramic bowl makes everything look intentional, sophisticated, and organized without extra work.
Strawberry Dip FAQ
Can I use regular Jell-O instead of sugar-free?
Both options are fine. My go-to is the sugar-free version, and I find the texture to be excellent as it sets up well without adding too much sweetness to the yogurt and Cool Whip.
Cheesecake Jell-O can be a little sweeter, but it still works. Just avoid subbing for a different flavor; it must be cheesecake.
Can I use Greek yogurt?
I wouldn't. Greek yogurt is much thicker and tangier. Instead of light and fluffy, the dip comes out heavy and somewhat sour.
If you want to stick with Greek yogurt, try a strawberry cheesecake flavored yogurt, and mix in some extra cool whip to make it less dense. But really, regular yogurt is a much better option here.
How long does it keep at a party (unrefrigerated)?
It is rational to leave it for 2 hours at room temperature. After that, it loses its texture and becomes unappealing.
If you're serving it at an outdoor summer party, place the bowl on top of a bigger bowl of ice to keep it cold and maintain its texture for longer.
Can I double the recipe?
Yes, if you double the ingredients, you will have a large bowl that serves about 20-25 people for a party. Use a large mixing bowl to fold everything together. Before serving, give the mixture a gentle stir since larger batches tend to settle more in the fridge.
