I definitely go through phases with yard sales. Some years I want to hit them every other weekend, and then other years (like now, when I have four little ones), I don’t have the time, but that may all change now that I’ve found Yard Sale Mapper. It’s a free app that works on both the iPhone and iPod Touch and it’s a lot of fun so far.
Here’s how it works. Using the geo-location capabilities of your iPhone or iPod Touch, Yard Sale Mapper identifies where you are. It then places red pushpins to plot out the locations of upcoming yard sales by date.
Tap on each pushpin and you’ll see a brief description of the sale. Tap the blue arrow and you’ll see a more lengthy write-up, and will also have the option to see the original ad as it appeared on Craig’s List. The Yard Sale Mapper app links up with Google Direction too so you can get turn-by-turn directions to each yard sale right from your iPhone or iPod Touch.
Of course, you’ll only save money with this app if you limit yourself to only buying those items that you actually need. It can be all too easy to pick up items at yard sales simply because they are cheap. Be sure to check out Yard Sale Queen for loads of tips and tricks to help you be a successful yard sale shopper.
Be sure to check out all the posts in my 30 Days of Money-Saving Apps series. Don’t have an iPhone or an iPod Touch? I think by the end of this series, you’ll find enough ways to save money to buy one! Or, you can use Swag Bucks and redeem them for an iPhone or iPod Touch (or gift cards or DVD players or so much more!).
Have you tried out Yard Sale Mapper? I’d love to hear about your experiences with this fun app.
