I am working with Lyft on this post — I didn’t realize just how much cash Lyft drivers really made, so I was thrilled to offer some information about becoming a driver for Lyft, as well as a few other ways to earn money fast.
Is cash tight? Want a second job but can’t do set hours? If you need extra spending cash, I’ve rounded up four super easy ways for you to earn cash on the side without getting a second job.
Need Extra Spending Cash? Make $1,000 These Ways
Did that small home repair take more money than initially planned? Did the mower break down … again? The dream team that your child would love to play on … is how much a year? I get it, I totally get it. Those surprise expenses that pop up from time to time can be a bit much, especially when you have other plans for those funds.
And, no matter how far and hard you dig, it’s impossible to find money that just isn’t there. When times get tough, the tough get going and when you allow yourself to think a little bit outside the box, you come to realize that there are ways that you can make extra spending cash or make money without getting a second job.
Here are four ways that you can make money on the side fast.
1. Become a Driver for Lyft
Do you have free time after the kids go to bed? Or maybe you’re a night owl, or find yourself killing time when the local sports team is playing in town? Lyft is a driver service where people use their own vehicles to offer rides to someone who needs one.
Driving for Lyft is a FANTASTIC way to earn extra money. Not only will the $300 driver signup bonus that’s being offered when you complete your first 100 rides skyrocket you towards your $1000 goal, but this company pays. Lyft has been around since 2012, and they have more than 100,000 drivers across the country. It would be safe to assume that with that many drivers working for this company, some of them are making some real money.
PS. The $300 Lyft driver bonus is only available for a limited time, so if you’re considering signing up, go for it! Use code: COUPONCRAVINGS300! Head here to check it out!
When you head to the Lyft site here you can enter your location, along with how often you want to drive and you will get instant information as to how much you can expect to make. In my local metro area if I work ten hours a week I can make $350 per week. That’s $35 an hour. On my schedule. Hello, pay dirt!
PLUS, on top of the pay, Lyft drivers also get these perks:
- Drivers Keep 100% of their tips
- Higher Earnings During Prime Time
- Tax, Health, and Mobile Perks

Now, of course there are some prerequisites if this is a way that you want to earn some extra hard cold moolah. It’s all pretty standard and the things you can imagine, but you’ll have to pass a background check, and a DMV check, own a four door vehicle 2005 or newer varying from state to state and have insurance. Things like your horn and all your lights need to be working, as well as maintaining good tread on the tires. But I am guessing you probably knew those things would be prerequisites, right?

I have personal experience with Lyft as well. My husband and I took Lyft home from a party recently and the driver was all smiles and talked about how much he really enjoyed driving for Lyft — and I loved hearing that! It felt great to know that he was happy doing what he was doing and that we were safer by using Lyft to take us home.
Does this sound like a good option for you?!
If you’re interested in applying with Lyft head here and begin the process by entering your information to start a driver profile. Easy peasy. PS. 2. Share Your Opinion by Participating in Focus Groups
Do you love to give your opinion? You’re in luck with this avenue to make extra money. Marketers will provide people to businesses in a group setting to give their opinions. For example, if a local restaurant wanted to know why they weren’t doing well in a specific market, they’ll reach out to a firm offering a focus group. This firm will hire people (you) to come in to their offices with your peers to give your opinions.
You’ll likely never know what “company” is behind the window, you’ll just be giving your opinion when asked specific questions like “does your family prefer fast food, casual dining or fine dining establishments when choosing where you’ll eat dinner” and “when you drive down ‘this or that’ boulevard what restaurants come to your mind first” Believe it or not, these sessions are incredibly helpful for businesses to know where they stand, what marketing efforts are paying off and the like.
You get paid for your time to share your thoughts and opinions — not a bad deal. Depending on your location, earnings range anywhere from $10 to $150 per one or two-hour session — which can add up to a good amount of extra cash if you do a few each week or month. Start on a website like FocusGroup.com.
3. Do Odd Jobs for Others
Want extra money with no set hours? This is a great way to earn extra money! Although you’ll have a bit of rampup time to get yourself marketed and your name visible and maybe rack up a few references, but in no time at all you could be earning some nice spending money by running errands for people, babysitting, walking dogs, housesitting and more! Care.com is a great place to start. Get an idea of the questions they ask, and then, use those as a frame for what you want to offer.
Another idea is Rover.com. This is strictly a pet sitting service that offers daytime and overnight jobs. The company states that you can earn more than $1,000 a month working with them. There is a bit of a lag in signing up as you’ll need to submit photos of yourself and photos of your home, as well as information about your own pets. The average hourly pay is $11.25 so quite a bit less than say, driving for Lyft, but still a good amount of money if you really love pets.
4. Become a Tutor
Do you excel at using computer programs? Or, maybe you’re a genius in math? Do you have a passion for reading or the English language? Considering tutoring might be in your cards. There are tons of opportunities online to tutor in all different subjects. Some jobs require certain certifications or degrees, but a few sites to check out are are a few tutoring sites to check out are StudyPool, CheggTutors and Tutor.com. You can also consider tutoring for people in your local area, which gives you some more flexibility and you can set your own rates.
There you have it! Four easy ways that you can make $1000 bucks pretty seamlessly and effortlessly. What ways have you thought of to make extra money?

Here’s a unique option for those who are looking for a part-time, flexible side business to bring in extra cash – you can become an independent small business loan agent! It takes zero specialized knowledge (the company has a complete online training system), and they provide a fantastic support system. You do have to be willing to introduce yourself to business owners though! 😉 The company charges no fees and requires no licensing. The average loan is over $80,000, so you could earn a couple thousand for a loan that size! (Talk about a fabulous Christmas, gifting ALL of your family and friends, and having extra to give to charities….) Getting funding from banks is very difficult now, so there is a huge need for these services. Our company is growing quickly, and they are looking for agents in all 50 states.
