Declan’s Journey: A Life Lost Too Soon (Fundraiser)

A few weeks ago, my life changed. I was introduced to Declan Carmical, three days before he died, by way of a blog set up by his family, Declan’s Journey. Declan lost a six-month battle with brain cancer, leaving behind a twin brother, as well as two older brothers. Declan was also a neighbor of mine, living just down the street, though I did not know it when I started to read the blog.

Declan’s passing makes Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (September) all the more relevant for me. Did you know that the gold ribbon is for pediatric cancer? I had no idea before this month, but I now feel a special need to help this family and to support efforts to fight childhood cancer.

With this in mind, I am hosting an online fundraiser here at Coupon Cravings to benefit The Declan Carmical Fund. This fund was set up by the Carmical family to help defray medical costs, which as you can imagine are overwhelming, and to aid in the fight against pediatric cancer. I’d love it if you could help spread the word so we can all worth together to end this horrible disease.

I’m working with several online retailers to donate a percentage of each purchase as cash or as a credit for the family. I hope you will share these links with others in email, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Thank you for your support.

Alice.com: If you’re not yet familiar with Alice.com, they sell household goods, like shampoo, dish soap, laundry detergent, trash bags and diapers. They have generously donated $250 to the Carmicals and have set up a special link to give all new Alice.com customers 15% off their purchase. Plus, 3% of every new customer purchase goes to The Declan Carmical Fund for one year. You can also share this link directly with friends: www.couponcravings.com/dbcalice.

Groupon: For every Groupon you purchase, 8% will go to The Declan Carmical Fund. I’ve been trying to highlight national Groupon deals everyday, but if you see a local deal I encourage you to shop through my link. You can also share this link directly with friends: www.couponcravings.com/dbcgroupon. This link will be active through the end of the year (though likely much longer).

Soap.com / Diapers.com: If you need to buy diapers or dish soap, here’s another alternative. New members who shop at Soap.com or Diapers.com and use promo code DECLAN26 will not only get 15% off the first purchase, but the Carmicals will receive a $10 credit for each new member.

At Soap.com, you can get free 1-2 day shipping when you spend $25. You can also get free shipping when you spend $25 or more on one order of Soap.com and Diapers.com products. Be sure to use promo code DECLAN26 when you shop, and be sure to share this code with friends and family.

Again, thank you so very much for your support. It means a lot to me and I look forward to the day when we can see an end to cancer, and pediatric cancer in particular. Please do check out Declan’s Journey or visit Declan’s Journey on Facebook.

Thanks for sharing this Erin. It’s great to see so many companies working together on this, and I hope and pray we’ll see an end to childhood cancer in our lifetime too!

My prayers and thoughts go out to the family as well.

At my church, we have had several children that have or are fighting cancer. So we have a special place in our heart because of it! I have passed on your info and hopefully we can all make a big difference by making a little purchase! Thanks for highlighting Pediatric Cancer Month!

          Erin,

Thank you for sharing Declan’s Journey. No family should ever have to endure pediatric cancer. I’m sorry this brave little boy lost his battle. Bless you for this fundraiser.

[…] Erin @ Coupon Cravings shared with me this week her efforts to raise funds to support Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and in particular to support the Carmichael family to help defray medical costs from their son, Declan’s battle with cancer.  This family has just recently lost Declan after a 6 month cancer battle, yet they continue to  work so hard to raise awareness and funds for Pediatric Cancer research (read their story – Declan’s Journey Here).
