How to Save at Home Improvement Stores
Now is the time that most of us start thinking about the outside of our homes, whether that be the projects that we’ve been putting off until the weather turns, the garden, or painting the inside of rooms that you wanted to have the windows open to let it dry.
There are several ways that you can get extra savings at home improvement stores that you may not know about.
First things, first. Keep your receipts. Most stores have warranties and the home store warranties are usually pretty nice. For example, if a plant dies within a year of the purchase date, both Lowe’s and Home Depot will replace it for free. If you have an Earl May near you, this is also their policy. When you find yourself spending $50-$200 on plants per year, this can add up to some huge savings.
Most home stores, including Lowe’s will match their competitors and top them by offering an additional 10% on top of the best price. Most times, this even includes online prices.
Another well-kept secret is that big box home improvement stores will accept each other’s coupons. You might have to ask the cashier, and then most likely it will need to be approved by a manager, but this is a great time-saver to not have to go to multiple stores.
Save time and money by using the in-store wood cutting services that home stores often throw in for free as well. I’ve used these services before like when I made my photos on wood planks and it worked like a charm.
Other things that can usually be cut or trimmed down for free include: lumber, pipe, glass, plexi glass, mini blinds, and rope and even chain.
If you do home projects for a living or a side job, Home Depot and Lowe’s offer contractor packs for additional savings. When you buy certain products in bulk, you’ll save on the per item price. You can save on anything from baseboard trim to caulk to light bulbs by purchasing this way.
“We want to be a service to the community and help them with their projects. There are a lot of ways to save money here at Lowe’s,” said Clark.
