7 Essentials for the Gym

Looking to take on your goals at the gym? Pack the perfect bag first and you’ll be set to rock your workout. Here’s how.

1. Quality Workout Clothing

Breathable, well-fitting clothing is key to having a good workout for numerous reasons. There’s a couple for reasons for this. The first reason is that no one wants to feel frumpy while working out – a great outfit that makes you feel good about yourself will keep you coming back for more and keep your workout routine in check. The second is of course for your personal hygiene. Having a couple of good quality tops and bottoms that you can rotate will be key to consistency at the gym.

2. Great Footwear

Choose the right shoes for the workout that you’ll be engaging in so you’re feet are happy too. For example, if you’ll be running, a great pair of running shoes are great. Or, maybe taking up an offer for the 24 Hour Fitness free pass and getting some personal training. Whatever you choose, make sure it provides the support you need for the type of training you will do.

3. Don’t Overbuy

Buy only what you need for your workout and wash it as needed. It’s the best way to save on workout clothes. Hands down.

4. Workout Log

Whether you decide to use an app to use on your mobile device like the Simple Workout Log app here or a good old fashioned pen and paper, be sure to track your successes (and failures) and keep the log in your bag. It will be great to come back to and see how you’ve progressed.

5. Drink Container

Of course you’ll want to bring along a high quality water bottle, but also consider bringing a Shaker Bottle to shake up your post-workout protein/carb combo or some pre workout vitamins. We love the Blender Bottles like these here.

6. Bring on the tunes

If you’re the type of person that is motivated by music, consider bring along your iPod or other MP3 player. There are numerous iPod holders that clip to your belt or fit in an arm holder like these highly rated holders here that are perfect to have while working out, yet not be in the way of getting your workout on.

7. Towel

Find a great moisture wicking towel to keep you dryer during your workout. These Cooling towels here are so nice and have great reviews. There’s nothing worse than being so uncomfortable that you have to give up on your workout.

7. Monitor

Keep tabs on the quality of your workout by using a good, high quality heart rate monitor. This will allow you to keep real-time tabs on your progress every step of the way, Use your monitor during cardio and lifting sessions to monitor your heartbeat and stay in the desired zone. Some heart rate monitors will even give estimations of total calories burned, a plus if you’re looking to lose weight.
