Money-Saving iPhone App #5: SnapTell
It’s already day five of my Money-Saving Apps series and today I’ve got SnapTell for you. This is a great (and free!) price-comparison app that will retrieve prices of DVDs, books, CDs and video games at both online retailers and local merchants.
No doubt that SnapTell will be a must-have app when the holiday season kicks into high gear since DVDs and video games tend to be popular gifts. This app only works on the iPhone since you must have a camera to be able to compare prices. You can either take a photo of the item you wish to buy for a price comparison or scan the bar code (warning: you must have a steady hand).
I had better luck when I scanned the bar code. I obtained more results and SnapTell proved to be more accurate. To test SnapTell, I used a copy of 30 Rock. It was Season One, Volume One, but since all the covers of each volume in Season One look the same with only a few minor color changes, SnapTell wasn’t exactly sure which one I had in my hand. So I scanned the bar code and had great success in finding prices at a variety of online and bricks-and-mortar retailers.
Be sure to check out all the posts in my 30 Days of Money-Saving Apps series. Don’t have an iPhone or an iPod Touch? I think by the end of this series, you’ll find enough ways to save money to buy one! Or, you can use Swag Bucks and redeem them for an iPhone or iPod Touch (or gift cards or DVD players or so much more!).
I can definitely see myself using SnapTell. While I haven’t tried RedLaser, I know this app is quite similar, so I’d love to hear from anyone who’s used both apps to compare prices and save money.
