I can’t believe it’s only one week to Black Friday. I feel like we’ve been seeing great deals for weeks, but we’re now in the final days to the best bargains of the season. Yikes!
A recent survey by Sitters.com found that 34% of parents plan to find a babysitter for Black Friday. I guess I never really thought about it before, but the idea of shopping on my own is pretty darn appealing. I couldn’t imagine bringing my kids into the mass chaos of Black Friday.
Sitters.com also released several tips to plan for Black Friday, including create a game plan (routines, instructions, snacks, etc.), work out the details of early morning sitter arrivals to keep from disturbing the kids, and plan for the sitter to stay an extra hour so you can recover from your morning (or full day!) of holiday shopping.
So, what’s your plan for Black Friday? Are you taking the kids with you to shop, asking a relative or sitter to watch the kids, or forgoing shopping on Black Friday altogether? In the meantime, get a heads up on the Black Friday deals to help inform your decision. I know I’m still undecided!

I took my daughter with me last year and I expect I will take her with me again this year if I go. I don't do a lot of actual shopping that day and I always go with someone else so having my daughter along isn't a big deal.
Absolutely not. The stores are too crowded, and there's no way that I can give them the attention they need while trying to take care of my shopping. I also worry about overzealous people hurting them because they are in the way of an item. As much as I LOVE BF, I would have to skip it if my kids couldn't stay at their grandparents for the night/day.
Every year, I see people standing out in the freezing cold for hours with tiny babies, and I always wonder if the any deal is *that* good.
I would never take a child shopping on Black Friday morning. Maybe by mid-afternoon.
One Black Friday, I took one of my 3 shopping as an infant in the backpack carrier. He had acid reflux, slept very little, and the often constant crying upset my mother too much to leave her with him and the others. I'll say that one was morning I wasn't frustrated having a baby awake at 5am. He got so much attention from shoppers and enjoyed the people watching so much that he actually napped with me when we got home – a first! I'm so happy we're past those days and don't have to worry about leaving them with my mom, but I will never frown upon those who have their kids with them. You just don't know their story, and they're not hurting you so go with the flow and remember to enjoy your morning.
I absolutely WILL NOT take my kids! Last year at Gurnee Mills a fight broke out then a stampede that I got caught in the middle of! I got punched VERY hard in the back and am still dealing with the effects of it! There were also gunshots reported there… you just never know what crazies are out there besides ourselves
In this economy we are all trying to save a buck but some are more desperate than others and will do whatever it takes!
I do wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving and Black Friday! Be safe and happy $avings to you!
I'm staying home!! There is no deal that is good enough to inspire me to face those kinds of crowds! Last year there was so much violence (even deaths!) I am totally put off. I will shop online from the comfort of my living room
I'm staying home too and there is NO WAY I would take my kids.
no way!!!! DD would be so grumpy before the sun even came up!!! maybe when she is a tween/teen! then she can shop with me… Dh is off that day, so I have all my shopping done & back home before noon
Thank God I have a wonderful husband! All the men in our family keep the kids BF. We are able to leave before the sun comes up and get home late. It does take some prepping before, but it's worth it. I can't imagine that chaos plus kids. Happy Shopping!
6 more days!!!
Thanks for sharing this information about Black Friday…
Now a days economy of the world is not going good well, so people are facing recession problem. So sale and discount during shopping is really important for everybody. People buy only necessary things during shopping so they want to get discount and sale on them.
When my daughter was little, we would visit my parents for Thanksgiving and everyone slept in while I went shopping. My Mom said she was too old to go and my daughter was too young, so I got some great alone time where I could concentrate on shopping. I'd be back by 8:30 or 9 with breakfast, so everyone was happy. I'm a single parent and getting some time to shop on my own was very precious back then.
My daughter is 14 now but I'll still shop without her. It's one of the few days that she can sleep in and I know she'll take advantage of that.
The Joann's ad for Black Friday came in the mail on Saturday. I already see several things to buy there!
