I’d been meaning to do a round-up of the new sites that let you swap books but The Wall Street Journal beat me to it today! I personally like to get out of the house to hit the library with the kids, but with gas prices as high as they are I’m excited about PaperbackSwap.com and BookMooch.com. They’re like Netflix for book lovers!
The basic concept is that you search for and select books you’d like to read. Just pay $2-3 for shipping per book and boom, the books are on your doorstep in a few days. Return them or don’t. It’s up to you how long you want to keep them, even forever if you like. No late fees ever since you own the books, you’re not just borrowing them.
If you want books that are both free and brand new, or if you just want cash, there’s still time to take advantage of a few great summer reading offers:
* Get a free book at Borders.com through August 8 (up to $5). Just enter BR41925 at checkout and you can even pick up the book at your local Borders bookstore.
* Barnes & Noble is offering a Summer Reading Program for kids grades 1-6. Just read 8 books, complete a reading journal, and get a coupon for a free book.
* You can also sign your kids up for the Summer Reading Program at Commerce Bank. Your kids just need to read 10 books by September 30 to get $10 deposited into a new or existing Young Savers account.
