I took the girls to Harris Teeter yesterday afternoon to get in on the last few moments of
Triple Coupon Days. I searched my coupons one more time and found several more coupons I could use for products I didn’t need, but that could be donated to our local homeless shelter. For $2.49 (incl tax) we bought 5 deodorants and a toothbrush.
I feel so fortunate to have coupons. They’ve saved me so much money and I’ve been able to get so many items for free or for very, very cheap. My trip to Harris Teeter today got me thinking about how blessed I am and how I should use my coupons, especially those I would not have used anyway, like for Ban and Mitchum, to buy for those less fortunate. And that I should pick up at least one item a week.
I know that many of you already buy with the intent to donate, but for those who do not, can you commit to at least one item a week to donate? I’m going to make this a personal goal of mine.
A few of the items that my local homeless shelter, The Good Shepherd Alliance, needs are toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, disposable razors, cleaning supplies and baby items, like diapers, wipes, onesies and formula. I would imagine your church or local shelter may wish for the same items.
And of course, don’t forget about food pantries for non-perishable food items. They need food all year round, not just during the winter holidays.
Here are a few great deals you may be able to take advantage of on items that your church, shelters and food pantries could use. Thanks to Money Saving Mom for the Wal-Mart and Rite-Aid deals.
