I read a great article yesterday on Switched.com called The Top 16 Ways the Web Can Save You Money. The writer highlights how you can save on groceries, phone service, magazines, travel, music, gas, prescription drugs, rent, bank accounts, cell phone plans, photo printing, new and used goods, coupons and comparison shopping, anti-virus protection, television, and how to get stuff for free.
A few of the high points for me included:
Bank Accounts: There are lots of great offers out there if you want to switch to a new bank as Carrie over at Money Saving Methods has been judiciously documenting. Thanks, Carrie! You can also check out FindABetterBank.com to compare accounts and rates in your area.
Free Stuff: Check out sites like AbsurdlyCool.com, Shop4Freebies.com and ThunderFap.com for daily updates and freebies organized by category.
Gas: To find the cheapest gas in your area, log on to GasBuddy.com or MapQuest Gas Prices. Also, GasBuddyToGo.com is designed to be used on your cell phone so you can find the best gas prices while on-the-go.
Groceries: MyGroceryDeals.com lets you track grocery sales in your area in one combined listing sorted by category (e.g., baking goods, candy, etc.). Meanwhile, CouponMom.com compiles printable coupons and tracks print coupons for you and Shortcuts.com lets you add coupons to your store card electronically to get redeemed at checkout.
Rent: We own our house, but this site called Rentometer.com seemed pretty neat. You enter the specs of the home or apartment you’re renting and the site tells you how you compare to other rentals nearby. This is also helpful if you’re looking to move to a cheaper area.
Take a look at the article and let me know what you think. Are there any great tips you have that this writer just plain missed?
