I was at Wegmans this morning doing my grocery shopping for the week. I wanted to use my three $1/2 Pantene coupons that I’d bought from The Coupon Master since they expire today and I noticed that the 375 ml size was on sale for $2.99 (from $3.99).

I normally buy the 750 ml size at Wal-Mart because it’s only $5.27. Even with this sale the larger bottle at Wal-Mart was still a better deal. Two of the small sizes at Wegmans would have equaled the larger size in volume but would have cost $5.98.

But…then I noticed that about half of the 375 ml bottles were marked “25% bonus” and actually contained 470 ml rather than 375 m. Thank goodness I could still work some quick algebra (if 470 / $2.99 = 750 / x, then what is x?) and figured out that for the 750 ml bottle to be a cheaper deal elsewhere it would have had to cost at least $4.77 and that just wasn’t the case. So I bought 6 bottles of Pantene shampoos and conditioners, carefully choosing only those marked “25% bonus.”

I ended up paying $2.49 per bottle. Not quite as good as the CVS deal that starts tomorrow: $3/10 and get back $3 ECBs. But, my coupons expired today and CVS may not have had the bonus sizes, so I feel pretty good about my choice to buy today.
