I was doing the weekly grocery shopping this morning at Wegmans and was just about to put the 64 oz Heinz ketchup into my cart when I happened to see a sale sign out of the corner of my eye. And boy am I glad I paid attention.
Since we go through A LOT of ketchup in my family I always buy the biggest size to save money (at my store the 64 oz size is $3.69). However, this week the 36 oz size was on sale for $1.69 (from $2.29). Now I didn’t have my calculator but I was quickly able to deduce that two of the 36 oz bottles would give me more ketchup at a cheaper price. So of course I stocked up – but not too much since this sale is actually on until Labor Day!
The moral of this story is that the biggest size is not always the cheapest by volume so pay attention. Speaking of Heinz, they have a really cute promotion where you can create your own labels. Fees start at just over $3 for the mini bottle, which is pricier than my $1.69 ketchup today, but still cute for a summertime cookout.
